Japanese at Booragoon Primary School
At Booragoon Primary School, we offer Japanese as part of our curriculum. In today’s global world—where nearly one million Australians visited Japan last year—learning Japanese is not only a valuable skill but also a doorway to a rich and fascinating culture.
Through Japanese, our students gain fresh perspectives on everything from food and traditional dress to sports and everyday customs. There’s so much to discover!
Some highlights of our interactive program include aJapanese Museum Day where students explore traditional Japanese clothing and enjoy hands-on experiences with traditional games. We engage with traditional Japanese professional manga artists where our students learn how to draw manga characters and make Japanese foods like delicious onigiri.
Learning Japanese goes far beyond the language. It nurtures cognitive skills like memory and problem-solving, while sparking curiosity, creativity, and open-mindedness. From bowing instead of hugging to the subtle ways of saying “no” politely, our students are constantly encouraged to think deeply and differently.
In class, the focus is on hiragana and kanji, using clever mnemonics and staged repetition to help them stick. BPS lessons follow the WA Curriculum and are designed to be fun, interactive, and engaging. Students participate in role-plays, speaking games, card games, and use dynamic online tools—all aimed at making learning meaningful and enjoyable.
