Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS)
At Booragoon Primary School, HaSS helps students explore how people interact with each other and their environments—socially, culturally, economically, and politically. It encourages curiosity about the world and fosters critical thinking, decision-making, and effective communication.
In the Western Australian Curriculum, HaSS includes four key subjects:
- Civics and Citizenship (Years 3–6)
- Economics and Business (Years 5–6)
- Geography (Years K–6)
- History (Years K–6)
Our teachers work collaboratively to design engaging and inclusive programs using a range of resources, including Inquisitive, an online inquiry-based learning platform. Lessons are rich in content and integrated across reading, mathematics, and digital technologies, ensuring all students can access and enjoy learning.
While developing our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we ensure our students participate in meaningful experiences that deepen their understanding of First Nations Peoples and their vital role in shaping Australia’s cultural heritage.
At our school, we’re committed to making a positive difference by actively supporting reconciliation. We aim to respectfully and meaningfully include the cultures, histories, perspectives, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in both our classrooms and the wider school community.
We strive to create a learning environment where truth-telling, reflection, fairness, equity, and respectful relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Through this, we hope to empower our students with the knowledge, confidence, and values to become strong role models.
Booragoon’s HaSS program encourages students to become active, informed citizens who appreciate the past, understand the present, and contribute to a better future.
