🧠 PEAC – Primary Extension and Challenge

What is PEAC?

PEAC is a part-time, supplementary program designed for gifted and talented students in Years 5 and 6 attending public primary schools. It provides intellectually stimulating and challenging learning experiences beyond the regular classroom curriculum.

Who is it for?

Students are selected based on their performance in a Year 4 PEAC test, which assesses verbal and mathematical reasoning. This test is administered across all WA public schools, and parents can opt out by notifying the school in writing.

What do students do in PEAC?

PEAC courses vary by region and may include:

  • Creative writing and dramaĀ
  • Science and technologyĀ Ā
  • Engineering and problem-solvingĀ Ā
  • Philosophy and debatingĀ

Courses are designed to:

  • Encourage higher-order thinkingĀ
  • Promote independent learningĀ
  • Foster social interaction with like-minded peersĀ
  • Support self-reflection and evaluationĀ

How is PEAC delivered?

PEAC is typically delivered through:

  • Regional PEAC centresĀ
  • Host schoolsĀ
  • Online platforms (for remote access)Ā
  • Excursions and expert-led sessionsĀ

Students attend PEAC sessions weekly or in blocks, depending on the region. It’s a withdrawal program, meaning students leave their regular class temporarily to attend PEAC usually offsite.

Why is PEAC valuable?

PEAC nurtures students’ gifts and talents, helping them:

  • BuildĀ confidence and leadershipĀ
  • DevelopĀ critical and creative thinkingĀ
