Science

At Booragoon Primary School, science is all about curiosity, discovery, and making connections to the world around us. We aim to nurture young scientists who explore with wonder, think critically, and develop a deep respect for the environment.
Our science program follows the Western Australian Curriculum and builds students’ understanding across Biological, Chemical, Physical, and Earth and Space Sciences. Through hands-on investigations and real-world inquiry, students learn to question, predict, observe, experiment, and draw evidence-based conclusions.

Learning in Our Edible Garden

Our school’s edible garden is a vibrant, outdoor classroom where science comes to life. Students plant, observe, and care for the garden while exploring concepts such as plant life cycles, soil composition, sustainability, and ecosystems. It’s a space where they can see firsthand how living things interact with their environment, while also developing responsibility, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. The garden links directly to healthy lifestyle choices and sustainable practices, making science meaningful and relevant.

Beyond the Classroom

Science at Booragoon extends well beyond the curriculum. Students can take part in exciting extra-curricular activities such as:

  • STAWA Science Talent Search – Designing and presenting innovative investigations, inventions, and creative communication projects that encourage problem-solving and real-world thinking.
  • Science IQ Quiz – A fast-paced, team-based challenge that tests scientific knowledge, promotes collaboration, and builds scientific literacy.

These opportunities foster creativity, teamwork, and a genuine passion for scientific discovery.
